I’m regularly surprised by the artists that operate within a few blocks of my apartment here in New York. After writing about Lonny Photo I discovered Patrick Cline worked a two minute walk from me in Chelsea. In reading about Christopher Spitzmiller I learned he’s just a few short blocks north of me as well making his gorgeous luxury lamp collection.

After having lived with my friend Abby, a ceramics major, for a few years in college and knowing her brother, also a ceramicist, I’ve been more and more into what can be made by way of lamps, vessels, and more. Her brother, Teddy, made some amazing teapots covered in spikes while we were in college and Abby made extraordinarily tall and skinny pots with decorative designs punched out or overlayed. Aside from the superficial similarities to them, Millbrook, boarding school, a love of labradors and an entrepreneurial family – their mutual love of ceramic arts resonates with me!
